From lecture notes to exam ready

Your course hands you slides, readings and an exam date. Knovli turns that material into a deck, paces it to the date and checks that you can recall it, not just recognise it. Your instructor does not have to use it, and neither does anyone else.

A page of handwritten photosynthesis notes, ready to become flashcards

Bring your own course material

Upload a PDF, a Word file or your typed notes, or photograph a page, and Knovli drafts flashcards or multiple-choice questions from it. Your file is read on your device rather than uploaded, and nothing is saved until you have checked the draft.

No notes yet? Choose From a Topic, set the level to College or Adult learner, and Knovli drafts a deck from scratch. With no notes behind it, read that draft carefully before you study from it.

Cards that can handle your subject

A card can hold what your course actually looks like: equations, chemical reactions, superscripts and subscripts, Greek letters, code that keeps its indentation, tables, and notes on a music staff. On a language deck, the speaker reads each side with the right accent, and adult learners can add a short audio clip to a card.

Plan back from the exam

Give a deck your exam date and the mastery plan splits it into daily lessons, so midterm week is review rather than first contact. If a week gets away from you, the plan spreads what is left across the days remaining.

You also set how high the bar sits. Standard wants a card right in two different ways. Rigorous wants three different ways, and then wants it again days later, which is closer to what a hard exam asks of you.

Practice that goes past recognising it

Type the Answer
No options to pick from. Recall the term and type it.
Use It
Short situations where you work out what follows. A deck has these once its owner has had them drafted and checked.
Say It Your Way
Explain a card in your own words and have it marked for understanding rather than wording. It is off until a deck’s owner turns it on, so on your own decks that is your choice. Marked answers come from a monthly allowance on your plan.

Bring your study group

Decks start private. Make one public and it gets a web address you can send to the group, and each person can copy it and edit their own version without touching yours.

Before the exam, host a Group Play review where everyone answers the same question at once on their own device, or send someone a 1v1. How many can join a group game depends on the host’s plan, and a 1v1 with a friend stays casual: it does not change your rating.

What it costs

The free plan includes unlimited games and study sessions, every study mode, your own mastery plan and a small monthly allowance of page scans, with limits on how many decks you can make. Knovli Premium is built for a heavy course load: far more page scans, unlimited decks, AI practice questions and marked answers, and no ads. See the plans.

Already use Anki?

If you are building knowledge to keep for years and enjoy tuning the scheduling yourself, Anki gives you more control. Knovli is aimed at being ready by a date, with far less to set up. Some people use both. Here is how they compare.

Common questions

Does my instructor have to use Knovli?

No. Everything on this page works on your own account, with no class and no instructor involved.

Does it work for my major?

Knovli works with whatever you bring to it, because you can build a deck from your own course material. Check Subjects and Explore for what already exists in your field.

Are my notes public?

No. Every deck starts private, and making it public is a deliberate switch.

Can I import my Anki or Quizlet decks?

There is no direct import. You can paste or type the terms into a deck, or photograph a printed list and have Knovli draft the cards for you to check.
